Bourne to run!

Have you entered Bournemouth Marathon Festival on 1/2 October 2016?

Stunning sea views, fresh crisp clean air and the very best of Bournemouth and Poole is on show as the South Coast is home to an international marathon. This is the perfect natural environment for “running as it should be”. Be a part of it!

The Bournemouth Marathon Festival brings many distances together in one unique festival of running.

The course is fast and picturesque, making it a must-do for anyone looking to set a PB. With 6 races to choose from there is something for all abilities, so if you don’t feel up to running a full marathon, then why not enter the half marathon, Supersonic 10K or Supernova 5K? The Supernova 5K is now open to children too, and with two different junior races to chose from, why not enter now and get the whole family involved!"

Defibs in the Community – Dawlish
- as you are all aware ‘Heartbeat’ the charity supporting ‘defibs’ in the community was our nominated charity and we contributed to the purchasing and installion of one at the ‘Bird Nursery’ in Dawlish.  We have just had news by the Ambulance Trust that this ‘defib’ at Dawlish has been used.  No details as yet.  Whatever it was the fire service and ambulance were in attendance.  It is hoped that a life was saved.  If so this will be thanks to Dawlish Coasters and Teign Heartbeat for providing the unit.  It just goes to show how necessary they are.

Folkestone Coastal 10k – Sunday 29 May
Whilst on a visiting trip Gill ran the Folkestone Coastal 10K. Sunny but very windy, with a lovely out and back flat route along the sea wall from Folkestone to Hythe. Gill finished in 48:49 and was delighted to get a new pb, and 6th lady in my age category

Dartmoor Discovery – Saturday 4 June
Simon was a lone Coaster running in the popular, challenging Dartmoor Discovery 32 mile ultra marathon over Dartmoor, 250 runners entered this very tough event which starts and finishes in Princetown and runs to Ashburton and Widecombe in the Moor, Buckland in the Moor and Postbridge with some huge climbs for runners to endure. Simon completed the race in 6:06; this is his sixth Dartmoor Discovery. All runners received a technical T-shirt and superb medal.  Well done Simon, just brilliant

Croyde Scrumptious Train – Sunday 4 June
Dawlish Coasters Ladies Team, Lorna, Sarah and Pat in Croyde for this amazing 10 mile event with food, food and more food and the most superb views. Starting out from Croyde we sampled, local creamy yogurt, fruit juice, ice cream, followed by gin and tonic and pork slider burger, all this before we left Croyde and  with 9.5 miles to go! Further selection of food stops, too numerous to mention but included, beer, trout, scones, asparagus soup, honey and many more. At the finish curry wraps and beer. This is a must do

Dawlish Coastal Dash – Thursday 9 June
Well done and thanks to everyone who turned out to help and marshal the Coastal Dash this year, with a record number of entries.  We did have some Coasters running, Todd first Coaster to finish in a time of 25:18, closely followed by Mel 25:25 and Ross 25:41, Andy 28:24, John 31:30 and Julie34:20

Rainbow Run – Saturday 11 June
Lorna, Michelle, Pat, Corrie and Freddie at the Exeter Racecourse for the 5k Rainbow Paint Run in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, with what seemed like well over a thousand runners of all ages getting covered in various colours as they ran through the paint stations, everyone totally unrecognisable at the end, great fun and for a worthwhile cause
Burrator Horseshoe – Saturday 18 June
All the fun of the Fair, Coasters enjoying all that this very traditional Meavy Oak Village Fair had to offer, bar, BBQ, oh and of course the race. The Burrator Horseshoe is a scenic, challenging 7 mile moorland run, starting and finishing at Meavy Village Green, taking runners up to Burrator reservoir, tough climb to Sheepstor, Gutter Tor at this point runners have to endure a bog then cross a river. First Coaster to finish was Eric in 58:49, followed by Simon 1:01:57, Les 1:05:01, Jan 1:07:11, Chris 1:14:48 and Heidi 1:14:57.  Over 200 runners took part receiving a T-shirt.  All took advantage of the BBQ and a well earnt pint to talk over the escapades on the moor

Chew Valley 10k – Sunday 19 June
Lorna in Bishop Sutton, a small town in North Somerset. A real family affair with son-in-law Peter running his first ever race and two grandsons running in the Rio Children’s 1k, which has 250 local children running. The High Street was closed for the start of the run and took the runners in a circular route through the lanes and included a testing hill which lead to a nice downhill run to the finish. The race was very well organised with 574 runners, Lorna finished in 1:01:34. Music and cakes at the finish and a nice t-shirt and medal too.

Torbay Half Marathon – Sunday 26 June
Three Coasters took part in the Torbay Half Marathon, around 2,000 runners entered this popular run that starts and finishes on Paignton Green and runs to Torquay and back twice along the main coast road. Dawlish Coasters, Dennis Crake and Pat Clatworthy in Suffolk for the Great Barrow Challenge, Dennis taking on the 4 marathons in 4 days, a self-navigation, multi terrain event, in some very challenging conditions, from heavy rain to humid heat.  Due to injury Pat managed to complete 3 half marathons in the four days. A great and very friendly event, camping and good food.  Can very much recommend this one

Women’s Running Magazine 10k – Sunday 26 June
Exeter Quayside saw the first time the Women’s' Running Magazine 10K come to Exeter.....unfortunately, clashed with the Torbay Half and some similar event in North Devon, so numbers lower than expected for this popular race series. Therefore, Tryl first Coaster out after the gun, and first Coaster in too!!....Actually, Tryl ONLY Coaster there! Great event on our doorstep; well marshalled and good fun. Tryl said it was good to be running again and happy with 1:08:31 after no training.
Dartmoor Classic Sportive – Sunday 26 June
We had 3 Coasters, Gill, Mel and Keith taking part in the Dartmoor Classic cycle event at the weekend, 100km very tough and hilly ride over Dartmoor, achieving a silver medal time
